Studies of Paintings from the Western World (1984)
After many semesters of teaching a survey art appreciation class, I decided to comment on the long evolution of the painted image with a series of interconnected master studies. Rather than mimic the paintings I chose to interpret them into my evolving technique of emphasized line and texture. The 41’ painting moves through the following sequence: Paleolithic, Minoan, Roman, Byzantine, Raphael, Rubens, Watteau, Monet, Cezanne, Picasso, Reinhardt, and Ramsden.
- mixed media on canvas
- This project is in the collection of the Visual Arts Center, Washington Pavilion, Sioux Falls, SD.
