I was inspired to do this project by my involvement in the South Dakota Peace and Justice Center and their efforts for reconciliation between European Americans and American Indians. I researched and compiled a body of stories and then worked with Dakota storyteller Pamela Greenhill Kaizen in retelling the stories into a consistent voice. I produced a series of 12 four by four foot mixed media canvases to accompany the stories. Below are also 7 watercolor studies and 7 graphite drawings for the series. Ten canvases are in the collection of the Aberdeen public school system, Aberdeen, SD. One canvas in the collection of Dacotah Prairie Museum, Aberdeen, SD. A book version of this project was produced but is now out of print (used copies can be found).
